Environmental Turfgrass Specialist
Dr. Calhoun is a native of Michigan and has worked in the green industry since the mid-80’s with jobs in the athletic field, property maintenance, arboretum, greenhouse and golf course segments. He has an undergraduate degree in landscape design and a master’s degree in turfgrass management. His Ph.D. research focused on the biology and ecology of annual bluegrass. At MSU, he has teaching, research and extension responsibilities in the areas of turfgrass weed ecology and management and plant growth regulator use. He also coordinates the activities of the Michigan Turfgrass Environmental Stewardship Program, a program that helps turfgrass managers identify and prioritize activities that will improve environmental protection on their property. He is an avid photographer and popular speaker at state and regional turfgrass conferences. He has been part of the GCSAA teaching faculty since 2002.
