Market Livestock Newsletter

  

The 15th Annual West Michigan lakeshore All Breed Heifer & Steer Show at the Mason County Fairgrounds will be held May 19, 2013.  Please click HERE for a copy of their brochure.  If you are attending and want it to count for a nonclub point please call the office at 873-2129 or email Toni at vanberg2@anr.msu.edu.

 SWINE CLINIC!!   The Oceana 4-H Grangers have set up a Swine Clinic for Monday, April 15, 2013. It will be held at the Grange Hall on Scout Road (see map). It will begin at 6:30 p.m. with Jerry May from MSUE discussing feed labels and swine selection. If interested in attending you MUST let Toni know ahead of time  at 873-2129 in order for it to count towards a nonclub point. This will be worth 1 nonclub point for those who attend and stay for the meeting which will last approximately 1 hour. 

 
STEER WEIGH-IN AND TAG RECORDING DATE  Is set for Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 8:00 a.m.- 10:00 a.m. at the Oceana County Fairgrounds. This is a mandatory meeting for all steer projects.  If you are unable to attend, your sibling or parents may bring your animal.  The Committee will award 1 non-club point for those MEMBERS who attend.  Please make all hauling arrangements ahead of time as this will not be an acceptable excuse.  If your animal is not weighed and the tag number recorded at this meeting you may be disqualified form the steer project.

ANNUAL MEETINGThe Annual Meeting to distribute checks is scheduled to be held at the Shelby Middle School Cafetorium on Monday, October 8, 2012.  The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m.  Remember to bring your signed buyers slips or you can not get your checks.  Anyone who can not make the meeting can get their checks in the office beginning Tuesday.

LARGE MARKET PROJECT SIGNUPS  will be held Saturday, November 3, 2012.  This year's rotation is Lamb sign up between 8:00- 8:30 a.m., Swine 8:30-9:00 a.m. and Lambs 9:00-9:30 a.m.  Remember that you must have either already reenrolled/enrolled and paid your membership fee or pay it at the time, must have ALL signatures on your applications to participate or they will not be accepted, and that you may only have immediate family members hold places in line for you, not friends or other relatives.

MSU Kettunen Center Workshops  - You can now register yourself.  The preceeding link has directions on how to register online and pay by credit card.  Remember that after returning from the workshop, sharing what you learned with either Youth Council or your club (or even another club) that Youth Council will refund your registration fees.

Mandatory Cattle Identification Program- a link to the MDA explaining the procedures for the manadatory RFID electronic tags.

DAIRY NOTEBOOKS:  (dairy notebooks are NOT part of the market animal projects).  Below are the dairy  notebooks and registration forms.  The notebooks are also available in the office.  Unfortunately they can only be listed or emailed in PDF format, not an editable format.

Joining 4-H Market Livestock

To participate in the 4-H Market Livestock Program, youth are required to adhere to project rules and regulations established for each animal project.  We encourage youth who might be thinking about joining the 4-H Market Livestock Program to review the project rules and if they should have any questions, please feel free to contact our office.

4-H Market Livestock Notebooks

Below is the various Market Livestock Notebooks for the Beef, Swine and Lamb Projects.  These notebooks must be completed by each member enrolled in the specific projects.  Notebooks must be presented to the Weigh-In Assistant on Entry Day at the Oceana County Fair at the time your animal is being weighed.

MAKE SURE THAT  YOUR NOTEBOOK IS THE CORRECT ONE-CHECK THE DATES.  THE PREVIOUS YEARS NOTEBOOK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AT THE FAIR.  CHECK YOUR DATES!!!!
