Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program

The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) is designed to help limited-income youth and families manage their resources and improve their daily diets.

Using hands-on activities, a staff of ten instructors teach in one-on-one or group settings.

Education Program

The instructors are effective because they are paraprofessionals who live in the neighborhoods where they teach and use research-based curriculum coupled with hands on activities. While other agencies provide food and other services, EFNEP helps participants maximize their resources to better feed their families.

In addition to working with individuals and groups, EFNEP cooperates with the following:

  • Women Infants and Children (WIC)
  • Work First
  • Adult Education Centers
  • Headstart
  • Project Fresh
  • Alternative Education Sites
  • Drug Court
  • McRest
  • Salvation Army
The benefits of EFNEP are far-reaching and dramatic. Coordinated efforts help families with limited resources to:
  • Obtain knowledge
  • Develop skills and behaviors
  • Stretch their food dollars
  • Handle food safely
  • Choose more nutritious diets
  • Become self-sufficient
Since its beginning, EFNEP has made a difference in the lives of those in our nation with the fewest resources available to feed, clothe, house, and educate their families. Families with limited resources, pregnant women, and school-age youth can all benefit from EFNEP.
