MSU Extension, in cooperation with the DNR, delivers the Michigan Firewise Communities Project and regularly compiles timely news articles, PSAs, and other educational resources for use by the public and media in an effort to spread the word about ‘firewise’ practices. ·         Seven important features of a Firewise home – The Firewise Communities Program provides helpful checklists for Firewise landscaping and construction. Firewise also offers useful tips to prepare your home and protect your family and pets from wildfire.

·         Firewise program helps save lives and reduce property loss – Michigan State University Extension’s Michigan Firewise Communities Project is part of a national effort to educate homeowners and local officials about the risk of wildfires and steps they can take to protect lives and property.

·         Firewise resources help prepare Michigan residents for spring wildfire season – Michigan residents urged to prepare themselves for the spring wildfire season as most Michigan wildfires occur from March to May.

·         Climate change may be putting your home at risk – Warming temperature patterns driven by climate change will grow wildfire risks dramatically.
