SUBJECT: INTERIM COMPLAINT RESOLUTION PROCEDURE
 
POLICY: The Interim Complaint Resolution Procedure allows complaints claiming a violation, misinterpretation, or misapplication of MSUE/MSU policies/ procedures/practices to be resolved in an orderly and timely manner.
 
APPLIES TO: MSUE academic staff members.
 
PROVISIONS/RESTRICTIONS:
 
  1. The procedure consists of an informal step and three formal steps, the final step being a hearing before an unbiased, three member hearing committee, if necessary.

  2. “Due process” guides the complaint hearing.  Due process means: 1) an academic staff member has the opportunity for a hearing; 2) to present evidence; 3) to receive a reasoned decision from the hearing panel; 4) an adequate statement of charges; 5) reasonable time to prepare a defense.

  3. The hearing committee makes one of two possible recommendations in writing to the MSU Extension Director sustain or reverse the complaint/ remedy.

  4. The MSU Extension Director notifies the complainant of the decision in writing.  The decision is final and not appealable.
