SUBJECT: JURY DUTY
 
POLICY: MSUE recognizes the civic responsibility of staff members to serve jury duty and respond to subpoenas (see witness fees) and makes provision for them to perform such duty without loss of pay.
 
APPLIES TO: All MSU/MSUE Staff
 
PROVISIONS/RESTRICTIONS:
 
  1. MSUE staff members who are absent from work for jury duty for up to 80 continuous hours receive regular pay and jury duty pay.  Proof of jury duty/subpoena must be provided to the supervisor.

  1. MSUE staff members who are absent from work for jury duty for more than 80 continuous hours will receive the difference between the pay received from the court and the MSUE pay.

  2. Notification of the call to jury duty must be provided to the supervisor as soon as it is received. Proof of jury duty is submitted to the supervisor and proof of jury duty pay is submitted to MSU Payroll, via the Regional office and MSUE Human Resources.

  1. The staff member is expected to report for work when temporarily excused from attendance at court.

  1. If a person’s expenses have been paid by MSU or the county, the funding source must be reimbursed.
