NON-MSUE ASSIGNMENT |

| POLICY: |
Leave without pay may be granted to an MSUE
academic staff member to accept a time-dated assignment, typically in
another country or an IPA with the federal government. Such
leaves do not usually extend beyond one year and are initiated by the
staff member. |

| PROVISIONS/RESTRICTIONS: |
| |
- MSUE must accrue salary savings as a condition for approval.
- Leaves of three months or less may be granted every three
years; leaves longer than three months may be granted every six years.
- For leaves of one month or less, the vacated position is
held for the incumbent; for leaves of more than one month, the Regional
Director determines the length of time the vacated position will be
held for the incumbent.

| PROCEDURES: |

- For off-campus employees, a written request for leave is
submitted to the Regional Director through the County Extension
Director. For on-campus employees, a written request is submitted
to the appropriate Associate Director through the unit administrator.
The Regional Extension Director/Associate Director consults with
the ANR Human Resources Office regarding employee eligibility.
The request should include start/end dates, location of the assignment,
a description of the assignment, funding, and how current job duties
will be covered while the employee is on leave.
- Request for leave should be submitted no less than three
months prior to the start of the proposed leave.
- Assignments outside MSUE funded by MSUE do not require a
leave, although these must be approved according to the procedures
stated in item one.
