SUBJECT: EMPLOYMENT OF RELATIVES
 
POLICY: Relatives of MSUE employees may be employees of MSUE provided that no employee will be under the direct supervision or control of a relative. (See MSU Policy on Conflict of Interest in Employment )
 
APPLIES TO: All MSUE staff members.
 
PROVISIONS/RESTRICTIONS:
 
  1. Standards for employment and promotion are a function of ability, qualifications for a position, and performance, not relationship.

  2. Employment of relatives in the same unit or department or under the same supervisor is authorized only with prior written approval.
 
PROCEDURES:
 

1.     A written request for employment of relatives in the same unit or department or under the same supervisor should be made to the Director of Extension who will seek additional approval, as warranted, from the Office of the Provost.

   2.  Conflict of Interest in Employment form must be completed and submitted in compliance with MSU policy.
