| SUBJECT: | STATUS OF ACADEMIC STAFF |
| POLICY: | MSUE provost-appointed academic staff are salaried-employees and, therefore, exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) which provides for overtime pay and/or compensatory time for work beyond a normal 40 hour work week. |

The
forty-hour work week applies to certain non-academic staff
(secretaries,
program assistants or associates, etc.) who are considered
non-exempt.
Employees should discuss issues of scheduling, office coverage, and staff supervision (if applicable) with the County Extension Director. Flexible scheduling should be managed in such a manner as to minimize impact on clientele and office operations. |
